Table Weight: Does it Matter?

In most cases, yes! In fact, if you are traveling regularly, table weight is critically important. Most massage tables fall between 30-38 pounds. Note that tables constructed of wood are generally heavier than tables constructed of aluminum. And, no, light tables aren’t necessarily lesser quality or weaker. Quality tables exist in the ‘heavy,’ ‘light,’ and ‘everything in-between’ categories.

Remember, if you travel with your table, you’ll actually be carrying more than just the table: you’ll have the added weight of a carry case, linens, facecradle, and lotions. This is where a table cart becomes a crucial accessory in your business. If you haven’t invested in one yet, I urge you to consider it. For minimal costs, you’ll save yourself a ton of hassle (not to mention aches and pains).

If you think table weight isn’t important, spend a day walking around with your table, carrying it in and out of cars, and up stairwells. I promise: You’ll change your mind quickly. So, if you’re in the market for a new table, do a thorough search. Know how much you can handle and buy a table cart if necessary. You’ll be much happier in the long run if you do.
